Cars with space for 3 car seats in the back

Hello - am expecting number 3 this year and I will need to change my car to one that can accomodate 3 car seats in the back and have a big boot for double buggy/supermarket shopping etc. Can anyone give me some advice on good quality, reliable cars that are practical for me and 'cool' enough for my husband to drive at weekends? He's very anti 'vans' but understands we need more car space!

i have a renault sacenic, large boot and fits a booster seat a second stage car set and a first stage car seat across the bcak

i also love the look of it and the way it drives

sorry about the typing, one handed

I love my Saab estate - has 3 3-point seat belts in the back (have fitted 2 second stage and a first stage one in).

Vauzhall Zafira is great. Can fit plenty of car seats in all over the place without seeming a huge car. Smaller outside than many considering it has 7 seat options or 3 car seats in the back and a massive boot. The advantage is that it is smaller than many to park and the seats fold down to make boot space so not storing the extra 2 in the far back
2.0 diesel is the most economic model

Can you fit 3 car seats across the back Lemontart?

we have one with 2 high back boosters in the back and there doesn't seem to be much more room - my bf has just had no3 so needs to change her car - just being nosey

I know their not the in thing now but our Freelander will fit 2 second stage and one baby seat in the back. You can get 1.8 engines so their not gas guzzling. Supension v.good but can cause travel sickness round country lanes we've recently discovered!

Renault Scenic a bit smaller, not sure I'd be able to do the same thing in it.

We need two car seats and a grandma in the back. No room for grandma between the car seats unless she wants permanently bruised thighs so we just went for an extra row of seats in the end!

we have a Citroen Berlingo which has the space and an enormous boot but probably not cool enough for your DH

TinyGang · 06/02/2007 17:18

I'm not sure it's cool, but in your situation a few years back we bought a Citroen Xsara Picasso. Three full sized seats in the back all with diagonal belts and a good sized boot (I had a double buggy too).

It really did the job well for us. I know you see them all over the place, but that's a bit of a good sign really

Now the children are older, we've moved on, and we sold the car last year but it was great when they were all babies/toddlers.

Only down side is a bit of a blind spot in the corners of the windscreen at the front where the pillars are, but you do get used to it.

TrinityRhino · 06/02/2007 17:19

the renault sceni does have 3 full 3 point seatbelts in the back which I was pleased about, wouldn't have been happy with just a lap belt in the middle.

TinyGang · 06/02/2007 17:21

No, agree with Trinity, that was something that was important to us too. Still is really.

Would also second the Citroen Xsara Picasso - I only have 1 ds, but regularly take mine and neighbour's out (with neighbour too!).

3 car seats fit in the back of mine, but not in the back of her ford focus (unless one is one a tiny booster seat)

I have a ford mondeo estate (with a spoiler, if that would impress your DH lol) and the boot is massive. Currrently i have two car seats and a high back booster, have also had 3 car seats, and before that 2 carseats and a rockatot across the back. britax are very helpful about advising on what seats fit a particular car if you ring them.

bundle · 06/02/2007 17:26

you cannot fit 3 boosters across teh back of a scenic

itsallabitmuch · 06/02/2007 20:26

We got a Grand Voyager because of grandma issue. Love it to bits - can put double buggy in without even folding!
