Best coffee machines

So I'm addicted to coffee. I like a really nice smooth filter coffee. I currently use a cafetière but it's a pain washing all time when I want a coffee. Which filter machines do people find best? Looking at either De'Longhi ICM 15750 - coffee maker - black/stainless steel or Melitta 1011-16 Look IV Therm Timer Coffee Filter Machine as ideas of what I'm after but I'm open to people's suggestions. Also is a hot plate or a thermal jug better? So much to decide for a descent coffee!

I don't have that model, but have a Melitta and it makes great, piping hot coffee. And a thermal jug every time for me - it goes on picnics, trips to the park, sitting in the garden, etc. Enjoy:-)
