My first baby is due in 2 months and I've been told I should replace our 3 dr Toyota Yaris with a 5 door car to get more room for baby and baby stuff. Any recommendations of small-medium sized 5 door cars which won't break the bank or wreck the planet? Cheers!

How big do you want your car to be? Superminis are getting larger - e.g. modern Polo is bigger than old Golf. 5 doors definitely an advantage (wrecked my back dealing with babies/toddlers in back of 3 door car. New model of Renault Clio is good and has low emissions. I think most of these cars are much of a muchness, so recommend a look at What Car (or its website)to get basic information.

We had a 3-door Micra until I was pg with no2. It was absolutely fine, no probs at all. If anything, a 3-door car can be easier to fit a car-seat into as flipping the front seat forward gives you much more room to manouevre in the back. For holidays etc when we had luggage we used dh's work car, but would have hired a larger car had we not had it. Absolutely no need IMO to go to the extra expense of a larger car unless you want one in any case.

I was told 5 doors are better as you're less likely to wake the baby up manoeuvring him/her in and out...? Also I'm not sure at the moment we have enough boot space for a buggy and the rest of the gear we need. But really don't want to go much bigger if we can help it....

I had a three door 206 until ds2 was 2 then I got a scenic. The 206 was fine and yes when you flip the seats forward there was masses more room to get the baby in and out. I personally would wait until they are in the next stage up car seat and you need more room
