Garden Furniture - teak stuff - any ideas on a good deal?
Cll · 09/06/2004 14:08
We want to buy a table and chairs for the garden - needs to be teak cos nowhere to store it so going to be outside all winter. Looking around prices for oval table and 6 chairs seem to vary from about £750 to well over £1000 - is this about right? Seems a fortune to me but I've never bought garden furniture before. If this is right - anyone know of a good place to buy?

We have teak stuff - cost a bomb well over 1k and the guy said you must never leave it outside over the winter!!
Got ours froma place in Blackfen SE London - they are great I think very reasonable!!

We have teak-ish furniture and store it under one of those elegant green plastic covers over winter.
Last summer I gave it 3 coats of teak oil and it's GONE so don't recommend that - get varnish or Cuprinol or that stuff that does what it says on the tin.
It will be cheaper than that in eg Homebase or B & Q, esp on 10% off days, but the quality won't be as good (it's what we've got!)

If you can wait until the end of the summer for the bargains. We are looking too, they do have some mail order ones in the backs of Sunday supplements but no idea if they're any good.

Janh - Cuprinol do a fantastic thing in a tim for hardwood furniture which brings back the colour as well as satining it a bit and protecting it and giving it lots of moisture!! - Teak Oil doesn't stop it going grey!!
They guy in the shop where we got ours said the gree thing (we have one too!!) was only for during summer storms as moisture will build up under it during the winter and effect the wood and apparently the brolly must always be brought in as if theat gets moisture on it it will rot!! - YUCK!!

Ooh thanks, Twinkie, I will get some! Our stuff is looking a bit sad.
The brolly winters indoors anyway and some of the chairs go in the shed but we don't have a garage or anything so the rest have to stay outside - maybe we'll give them an airing now and again - that might help!

Can you take them apart and put them in the garage?? - DP will be doing that this year andf I can;t wait till next summer to watch him put it all together
