They had some fantastic ones at DIG in York with fossils and bones and things in them

southeastastra · 30/08/2007 15:31

i had a lovely blue one with stars in it. but that broke. it's the connections at the back that seem to be the problem.

louii · 30/08/2007 15:43

We were going through them at a rapid rate as well.
What ruined them is sitting sideways on it when DS was in the bath. We have now had the same one for a year as we sit on the floor instead when he in the bath.

NomDePlumeCantFindTheCatch · 30/08/2007 15:45

Ours seem to 'slip' to the side. Wobbly hinges.

southeastastra · 30/08/2007 15:46

serenity does the ikea one have plastic hinges at the back?

i'm now on a quest to find one with plastic instead of metal hinges. surely they should be able to withstand being sat on sideways, backwards, stood on or whatever shouldn't they?

OP posts:
serenity · 30/08/2007 19:51

Just went and checked - plastic hinges (it's a white plastic seat)

I think it's this one www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/30030538, but it's been a while and I'm 100% - hard to tell from the picture

southeastastra · 30/08/2007 20:08

thank you serenity, i know i sound like a loon but it really has annoyed me

off to ikea (any excuse to go there tbh)

Bummer

southeastastra · 30/08/2007 20:13

To help boys aim.

WendyWeber · 30/08/2007 20:18

I bought an expensive one too and the metal bits still went green and rotted (it's useless boys with crap aiming you know)

Last month I bought a plain white one with plastic fixings from Homebase - it's still covered in wee (from useless boys with crap aiming) plus it moves around all the time, but it can at least be easily loosened and cleaned properly and then refixed.

I think the answer is to allow only females to use the loo. Or to make the men sit down (they won't). Or to have no seat at all.

HTH

southeastastra · 30/08/2007 20:25

that would help! i wonder why they're still making these 'faulty' connections though. they are everywhere!

OP posts:
southeastastra · 09/01/2008 20:57

i'm keeping a record of how many i've got through on here. another one bites the dust.

OP posts:
RustyBear · 09/01/2008 21:01

Was that the one from Tesco SEA? 11 months is a bit better than 3 in a year!

southeastastra · 09/01/2008 21:03

no this one only lasted 4 months. it was a plastic one but with bits of metal.

OP posts:
Lubyloo · 09/01/2008 21:05

Well we keep having this problem so last time ours broke DH decided enough was enough and he was going to invest in one that was better quality. He spent £55 on one from John Lewis and it does exactly the same thing! However, because it cost so much he refuses to get another one and I am constantly slipping off to one side!

southeastastra · 10/01/2008 11:33

lol. someone, somewhere is making a mint through manufacturing these inadequate things. argh

IKEA is the answer - we had this too, connections rotting, loo seat slipping sideways. IKEA plain white one - no probs at all.

southeastastra · 28/02/2008 08:14

this one didn't even last two months. i'm shocked and will tally this thread up, i thinkn i've got through at least five this year alone.

OP posts:
southeastastra · 28/02/2008 09:37

and everywhere i go (apart from ikea) the connections are the same. i'm most miffed

OP posts:
dippydeedoo · 28/02/2008 09:45

now this is a handy thread were on our 3rd one this year!! i thought it was wee on the metal flap so the first one in 2008 (bought early jan) i dutifully wiped it down at least 3 day with dry tissue it still bloody broke ...

plan b i sealed the next one with clear nailvarnish - still broke

we are now on a £7.99 netto one thats been on 3 days and is now leaning to the right a little.

im thinking i might just buy a cheaper plastic one next

southeastastra · 28/02/2008 09:58

ah one more victim, i'm collecting them. each time one of mine breaks at least one other poster complains of the same thing.

it's so bad i'm starting a campaign.

the cheap plastic one i tried broke too. .

OP posts:
southeastastra · 28/02/2008 11:13

any more loo seat failures?

though i don't know who i'm going to complain to

OP posts:
Flllightattendant · 28/02/2008 11:17

Lots here. I'm glad it isn't our toilet to blame!

I think it is the plastic wahser things you get with them, they do rot, you tighten them and tighten them and then they just break. It's blooming ridiculous.

If anyone knows where they sell them with proper washers not those white placky ones, please tell me
