Can I connect my broadband box to a high speed modem cable?

Well today is my activation date for sky broadband. Our phoneline comes in at the top of a 3 floor house with very thick stone walls. DH was pessimistic that the wireless router would work well down to the first floor. It also come in under a shelf under the eaves - very tricky to get to.

SO... I've plugged a router into the phonesocket. Attached is the extension lead for the phone and this great thick silver cable that I bought last time we tried to get broadband. Can't remember what its called (RJ ?) but it says "High Speed Modem Cable" on it. I've run this downstairs and plugged the wireless broadband box into that. Will that work?

The internet light hasn't come on yet but I'm not panicking yet as it could come on any time(?) and they say to allow 3 more days anyway. Just wanted to check its not not come on because of the cable. I know I could just take it upstairs but you have to see it to know how difficult it is to get in there!
