Help me choose an oven please!

Have needed a new one for ages but I've been holding off till we had our kitchen done....

I've just had a single oven before but am thinking of getting a double one now (or at least with a seperate grill). I'd love to treat myself to a self-cleaning one but can't find a double oven where the main compartment is self cleaning - does anyone know of one?

If such a thing doesn't exist, would you then go for a normal double oven or a single self-cleaning?

how dirty does your current oven get? if it is mainly from teh grill then you prob wouldn't need self cleaning. two compartments is great as any fat from grill doesn't go smokey when you use the oven. but on mine (went a bit too cheap i fear) the smaller oven is not very hot in fact it is crap. grill good though.

Yes it is the smoking after I have grilled sausages, etc that I hate (plus the actual cleaning - mine is disgusting now but as it is being chucked out in a couple of weeks I have no intention of cleaning it again!)

Do you want one which is free-standing or built-in?

I've just got a free-standing electric Electrolux Insight (about £600) EKC6047x and I'm really pleased with it. It has two ovens and the top one is also a grill. Both are almost equal in size; the bottom is fan assisted whereas the top is just a conventional one. Seems to cook well and the ceramic hob is good too.

Only had it two weeks though, but have done roasts, cakes and the general every day stuff with no disasters (yet!).

I'm sure Neff have ones with self cleaning on the main oven.

I have Neff and it is very good (no self cleaning tho unfortunately!) I could not manage without a double oven... what do you do when you have something cooking in the oven and need to grill, which I seem to do a lot?!

I want a built in one...

Can only find a Neff self cleaning for a single oven though some of the double ovens have something called Aquacleansing where you put water + washing up liquid in the bottom of the oven and the steam loosens any grease, etc. Has anyone got that???

surely you could just put a metal tray with soapy water in any oven? sounds gimmicky. i dimly recall you can't get self cleaning with a grill, perhaps that's why you can't find sc double?

Don't know - I only want the main oven to be self cleaning, not the small one with the grill in.

I think it says a lot about my housekeeping skills that self-cleaning is the only feature I am remotely interested in when it comes to choosinga new one
