help with baby monitor

Hi there,
We are thinking of getting a baby monitor for use in the house and when we are in the garden (and baby is in house) or camping. Have read the mumsnet product reviews but am still undecided?..
Basically am not bothered by fancy add-ons, but want the one that will work the furthest distance and still maintain clear sound (nor problems with interference). Any recommendations?
Also what does everyeone think to trying to get one second-hand (ebay or keeping an eye mumsnet for sale). Being an electrical product will they be reliable. Do they last a long time or have people found them conking out after a bit?
Cheers for help.

No idea on recommendations for you, but ime they last ok so wouldn't be worried about a second hand one from that point of view, as long as it's not ancient. Bought ours over 3 years ago, so no idea on latest best products to buy ... sorry!

I have a tomy walkabout 2000 which you can use with batteries or mains adaptors I have the box and probably the instructions if this is the type of thing you want I'm happy to sell it on. Let me know and I will check that it is working with mains & batteries and how much it will be to post. I used it with dd2 and then realised our house is so small and non-soundproof I can hear them anyway!
