We had a powercut this morning and it has done somethibg nasty to my computer.

Can anyone help...please!!!!!

it keeps looping and displaying an error message but failing to start.
The error message says BAD-POOL-CALLER

We have only had the computer 3 weeks

It might be a USB problem - remove all USB devices i.e. anything plugged into it that isn't essential

spykid · 27/01/2007 16:54

dh has tried that

any other suggestions

can you open it in safe mode? strange message

spykid · 27/01/2007 16:59

It gives the option of this, but when you choose safe mode it goes on the same loop

bad pool caller is most likely to have something like this after it

0x000000C5

and some similar numbers in brackets

so may refer to a driver or software

eg printer etc

spykid · 27/01/2007 17:03

It does have a code like that, can I do anything?

I am no computer person

but you can disconnect any hardware eg printer physically and go into sfae mode device manager and disable sound card, etc and then try and see if computer boots

spykid · 27/01/2007 17:09

Thanks,

It won't let us start up in safe mode.

I think we will have to send it back

Gutted

have you tried tapping one of the keys when you first switvh it on before it gets as far as trying to start up is it F8 or something?

DominiConnor · 27/01/2007 17:35

Sounds to me like your Windows installation is corrupt. (I'm about 80% confident on this).

A power cut during disk access can do this.
Really quite unlikely to be any device attached to your PC.

Although you didn't get media with the system, there should be a restore partition.

Who made your PC ?
Please, please tell me you didn't get it from PC World.

What part of the country are you in ?

spykid · 27/01/2007 17:39

Its an ACER Aspire T650

NOT from PC world!!!!!!

morningpaper · 27/01/2007 18:17

take it back

it needs to have windows reinstalled

something is buggered

zippitippitoes · 27/01/2007 18:21

I wouldn't mention the powercut in the store though

how did you pay for it some credit cards include insurance

or your house insurance may cover it

spykid · 27/01/2007 18:33

We ordered it online

I agree , I won't mention the power cut

Think they will have to come and collect it Monday
Bugger

I'm very surprised that they didn't try to get you to install Windows yourself. I'm had Acer laptops, and you really ought to have some Windoes with it.
But if they're prepared to sort it out, I'd take the offer. 99% of these installs go right, but the 1% that don't are deeply painful.

Odds are you will lose everything on the disk...
