blackened rubber seal - washing machine

My washing machine is only 2 years old and the inner rubber seal around the 'porthole' of the machine has gradually becoming blacker. Can't decide if this is corrosion or some sort of mildew growth. Very difficult to clean and quite horrible. Anyone else had this? What's the best way to restore it? Thanks

do any memebrs of your family use emoillants for ezcema? this can cause problems.

a bit of toothpaste (whitening) applied with a toothbrush may work. in future, between washes, dry the seal and leave the door open.

are you ready for this - apparently its human fat. YEuch! the chap in John Lewis recommended we do a biological wash at hot hot hot once a week.

Yes efmach, I had that problem too with Ariston, and they told me it was human fat (nearly gobbed them, cheeky gits!) It started to disintegrate too

I bought some sachets from them to use once a month - only use them every 3 or 4 though! - that you put thru on a very hot wash - over 70 and I haven't had the problem again, though I did have to replace the seal

I do a 90degree wash with no soap, just white vinegar in all soap and conditioner compartments, every few months, and it leaves everything pristine.
