her high up her head is. what seat is she in now?

LIZS · 24/01/2007 14:13

When her ears reach the top of seat and she weighs more than 15 kg (preferably 18kg for one without a harness).

throckenholt · 24/01/2007 14:13

apparently the straps should not come from below the shoulders (IYSWIM) - should come from level with or just above.

Biglips · 24/01/2007 14:15

its for weight of 18kg - she is 16 and a bit kg ..the top of the seat is quite high up...but cannot remember where exactly...will have a look l8ter

Trouble is many seats of the next category up will use just the adult belt and she may find it easy and fun to be able to undo it mid-trip. What do you have now and what are you considering ?

Biglips · 24/01/2007 14:41

well i am thinking of buying one of thinkingf of this one

or

or this one

Think you may find same problem with the straps tbh - the harness would only go up to 18kg max, probably the same limit as the one you've got.

Biglips · 24/01/2007 14:46

u mean that ALL harnesses goes up to 18kg?

The only one I know of, apart from SN seats, beyond that is the Britax Elite. We have a Britax Evolva 123 and you can only use the harness on it until 18kgs then adult belt.

Biglips, I am also having same problem as ds has just turned 2 and he is nearly a meter tall already. He has a maxi cosi at the moment but his head is way over the height of the seat.

Have just ordered a seat for him from my littlewoods catalogue (hasn't arrived yet)it is made by Alto, and is a 1,2,3 style. The back does come off to use as just a booster too, also has side protection for head and hips. It is £60.

Biglips · 24/01/2007 21:55

let me know how u get on with it pls?

they are too big if their eyes (not top of head) are over the top of the seat

mumfor1standfinaltime · 25/01/2007 10:10

Will do biglips.

Problem we have with ds's seat is that we have a coupe sport car and isn't much leg room either. I am worrying that if we had a collision that his feet or legs would crush behind the seat. Have moved him into front seat (no air bag) but it is still a tight fit for his legs. The 'baby' style seats tend to 'lean' more so I need a seat where he is more 'upright' iyswim, this would help with leg room. It hasn't been a problem up until now as he is getting much taller.

The top of the seat he has now is half way below his forehead. But for us it is all about leg room. The seat I have ordered is suitable for 9-36kg.

just got back from Mothercare (oh ive checked my daughters eye level to the back seat and its levelled)....me and the staff tried 2 seats that was suitable for my dd and both didnt fit her!!!!

the only one that she had recommended but she thinks they have stopped selling them is BRITAX cruise one as you put a normal seatbelt over her body and their is a clipping mech behind the head part to clip and tightened the seatbelt into place

my daughter is also 37lb too

Hi biglips, just got my new carseat delivered.
Dh has the car today so I can't try it out properly, just tried to sit ds in it but he is not interested!
I didn't realise but it is a Mamas And Papas one ( called 'Alto'). This is one where you use normal seat belt too and clip it at the side.
Seems ok so far, looking forward to trying to fit it!

mumfor1standfinaltime · 26/01/2007 12:33

oh yes and this seat has an adjustable head rest for different heights (sorry if I am stating the obvious but I am a car seat virgin really and only been driving for 1.5 years too.)

mumfor1standfinaltime · 29/01/2007 17:31

Have now got my seat in the car and it is fine. Much easier to use I think too, as it uses the car seat belt to strap ds in.

Would recommend the seat! Have you managed to find a seat biglips?
