Help me please - need to find Materntiy Wedding dress by 17th July !
smellymelly · 04/06/2004 10:08
I am nearly 10 weeks gone with twins and have a major bump already!
Have just had to complete buying my dream wedding dress, so I can now sell it on Ebay, as there is no way I will get into it.
I live in Devon, and am finding it very difficult to find a dress specifically for someone in my situation. I know I'm not the only pregnant bride so why is it so difficult to find a dress to fit.
I'm not into frills and lace, would like something long with a small train, and very modern. Oh and it must be new...
Help me please!

Smellymelly - I am prepared to take on this task
How much are you looking to spend?
What Colour?
etc etc

Thanks springchicken. The dress I have but can't wear is ivory with a train and a half puffed out skirt (not too full) and has black beading, and black pearls as detail, instead of the usual ivory, or diamonte. But if the style of the dress is ok, then we can add detail later. I have already made my haedpiece, a comb not a tiara, with black and silver beads. I have a couple of tattoos, so it can't be too frilly, or flouncy.
Also would prefer no straps or thin straps. No sleeves
I'm a size 10/12 normally, but my bump puts paid to that!!
Angryaboutpast - I tried pasting your link, but I tend to go round the houses with some searches so haven't had much luck. Did you find anything specifically?
smellymelly · 04/06/2004 10:34
Have spent a fortune on dress already, so would like to keep the cost of this one to a few hundred, unless it's the absolute bomb!!
gothicmama · 04/06/2004 10:39
can you not have your dress altered perhaps add another panle at the front
Jaybee · 04/06/2004 10:42
Have you spoken to a seamstress or where you bought your original dress from in case you can get it adjusted? Maybe they could add it some material. You obviously love it and it would be a shame if you couldn't wear it.
angryaboutpast · 04/06/2004 10:43
not seen snything sorry. i cant do links but put this into your address panel www.devon-weddings.co.uk/north-dresses.html They have loads of lists of shops that sell wedding dresses in devon

my sister had her dress altered and it looked fab - the top half stayed the same and a fuller skirt was added to the bottom and she was 7 months pregnant! She used a professional seamstress to do the alterations and it was quite reasonable priced IIRC. have a lovely day! and congratulations!

found this for mums to be have not checked but they said they have wedding dresses
maternity dress hire hope this helps
aloha · 04/06/2004 10:44
I would talk to a seamstress about adapting your existing dress first. A really clever one can work wonders.
mummytosteven · 04/06/2004 10:47
Just been googling and found a great looking site:-
www.tiffanyrosematernity.com/
the dresses look nice and not that expensive. However I suspect that it may be more useful finding a very good seamstress, as you won't know what shape you will be by the time of the wedding!
Hope that helps

My dress has a corset style top, and they can't even do it up now! There isn't enough material to accomodate my kind of growth, and there is a 12 week wait on the material to match the dress.
They seem to be unwilling to add any other material to it, saying it would show, the only place they could do it is all the way down the sides.
I will take it to another seamstress though to make sure.
Checked out TiffanyRoseMaternity, and though a great idea, unfrotunately I'm not really into lace.
Jaybee · 04/06/2004 11:15
What about something like this - I love the one on the right, no idea how much it is though.
Jaybee · 04/06/2004 11:24
It is on www.carla-c.com - I had to use the pdf file as my PC doesn't have the capability tio enter the site. Also there are some on this site but it is American so not sure they will post
acnebride · 04/06/2004 12:53
just tried confetti.co.uk on this and it was [email protected] but worth trying berketex who were mentioned as having a range of maternity dresses?
best of luck

ghost is where I got my wedding dress from. I was 7 months pregnant and HUGE. Because they are stretchy you can wear them after the babies are born, making the whole expense more acceptable.
smellymelly · 07/06/2004 16:27
Ta for all your help....
This morning I managed to find a very lovely, local seamstress who can put panels in the side of my dress, and I have even found some perfect material to match. She can do it 1 week before the wedding and will only charge £20!!
So it seems the bridal shop were just being stubborn..
Thanks again
busybee123 · 07/06/2004 16:29

SpringChicken · 07/06/2004 16:34
