So does anyone actually use a wok burner then?

Or are they just an expensive fad?
We are designing a new kitchen and most hobs these days seem to have these wok burners. I need to know - must I have one of these? Are they genuinely useful?

And does anyone actualy use 5 or 6 burners at the same time?
Should I just go for a good old fashioned 4 ring hob or is that a complete design no-no these days?

Well I have the wok burner but no wok!!! Not sure how that happened. Find 5 rings are handy at Xmas when cooking for a crowd.

I would if I had one but then I cook alot and am constantly frustrated that my wok will not get as hot as it should be.

we`ve recently had a new kitchen plus lovely range cooker and we certainly use it to the max and often use the wok burner but depends whether you like stirfries or not really!!

Twiglett · 21/01/2007 21:55

yes .. I do a lot

pageturner · 21/01/2007 21:57

Yes, and not just for woks. We have seven burners altogether, and the large one if good, but not as good as the wok one. Sometimes you just really need a good burn!

NotQuiteCockney · 21/01/2007 21:59

I use mine for the wok, and for large pans if I need lots of heat.

I wavered a bit about getting it, but am very glad I have it, and use it lots.

elliott · 21/01/2007 21:59

Well I don't have a wok (could get one I suppose) and equally could do more stir-fries - is that really all I would use it for?
I would have to gamble that the ds's would actually like stir fries....

My wok burner is vicious ! It's too hot, I always end up burning stuff on it

elliott · 21/01/2007 22:00

OK, so maybe it would be useful. Any excuse to spend more money on my dream kitchen just a bit worried about eating into worktop space with a wide hob - and I was also flirting with the idea of a barbecue grill too....

Yep, I have one and it gets used. Dh is a chef so he uses it loads, not just for woks, also for big pans.

We have 6 rings but have never used them all at once.

It's tricky to have a wok on and another large pan imo.

don't own a wok either but I bought ours for size of oven rather than how may burners etc
