AAAAAArgh..my blardy Dyson!

just been stripping old paint off walls and started tidying up to do dinner..switched hoover on and........nothing!!!???..used it last night to hoover when mindees went and was fine, it sounded like it was about to click into action..but nothing??..tried fuse, not that, emptied and cleared filter out..nothing..hhhheeeeeeeeeeeelpppp please, repair or replace????
had it about 3 years but me being me never send 5 yr warranty card off

Look at Dyson website - they have trouble shooting.

We were going to chuck out ours as it had stopped sucking but my mum, who had raved about dysons hence why we bought one, decided to take it upon herself to write to dyson and complain and get it fixed. Thankfully she looked at the website to find the address and noticed the trouble shooting bit. She then found out that we had a filter that needed washing out every 6 months which had never been done .

It works perfectly now

my dyson has died on me too although it is about 7 yrs old now. its worth calling the helpline as they will give you advice even though you have not registered it. mine has no power going to it, and they confirmed that it would be an engineer job. so mine is coming out monday!! at a cost of £55.00 but does include repair and replacement of parts (apart from the filter and accessories ie small brushes).

I was going to repair ours this one last time and replace it next time it breaks down. HTH

well thats like ours, fuse is fine but nothing happens when you switch it on?
website doesnt really have that problem, but says that if it cuts our it could be heat(which it wasnt as it hadnt started) or things such as builders dust could cause probs??..erm..like the dust and rubbish off the paint we were removing including all the plaster dust???[blsuh]..so hope we can get it working..and yours, did you say that it would be £55 to fully repair it?????

Its costing £55.00 to get engineer out and look at it, who will then replace any parts if necessary. i think its worth it. sometimes with dyson's it really is as simple as washing the filter, or ensuring the circuit is connected or replacing the cord.

that reminds me, must wash the filter and clean the motorhead tomorrow . which dyson do u have??

dc05 absolute..so washing the filters eh??..so should is swish em around in the sink or put them in washing machine??

and how do you clean the motor head?..if its plaster dust thats stopping it wrking how do i get into the nooks and crannys to clean it?

It's definitely worth getting dyson out to fix it. The £55 covers all parts and labour.

Ours broke down after hoovering up plaster dust and we got practically all the bits replaced free of charge (including a new hose) because it was a known fault.

We never sent off the guarantee card either.

Get rid of it and get a Henry! Fab cleaning and he becomes one of the family

i found them really good over the phone, turned out to be the belt..

I hate my dyson.

i've got the dc05 motorhead - i think the same as yrs.

there on instructions on the side of the filter on how to clean it. use lukewarm water and yeps just rinse it really until the water is clear.

i've never really cleaned the motorhead unless too many hairs stop it from turning

i'll try and post tomorrow evening and let you know what happens with my dyson.

ah, so £55 is their call out fee but will replace bits inclusive of that fee?..sounds good to me!..will give them a ring tomorrow got nothing to lose really?!..how the feck should i clear up plaster dust if i cant hoover it???, we swept lots, but still needs hoovering

We have a DIY hoover which cost £30 from B&Q and use the dyson for everyday hoovering.

so the dyson guy came today!!! basically they dont make the DC05 anymore. when he tried to open the part where the cord is, it snapped in half!! so he needs to order the parts and is coming back next week. he is also ordering a new handle, hose, cord and i think a new motorhead - all for £55.00 and no charge until job is done. "will be like a new machine once he was finished with it" he also said it was cheaper to get it fixed than to get a new dyson!!

so i'm happy but not thrilled that i dont have a hoover for another week. hope all this helps

nopes, dont have the receipt - threw it away ages ago. i did register it about 6/7 years ago and i was still in their system, but i dont think its necessary.

well dyson rang yesterday re my email and they said £39 if its something(cant remember what) or £55 if anything else..washed filters yesterday and still not working so theyre coming out friday!..it is only about 3-4 yr old, but he said it wasnt(i know cos we bought it three houses ago meaning max 3 1/2 years!)

engineer just been, went through speel of costs etc, was really nice and chatty opened machine and said it was actually the cable that had the fault(not me hoovering up the plaster dust!) he fixed it quick time replaced cable and i asked if it was £39 or £55 and he said it was free as it shouldnt have become faulty!!!!!!!!!!!!!....he tried to sell me a replacemtn filter which i declind but asked about the stair attatchment as ours had snapped and he said he would also order one of those for me too----FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
