We did years ago.

We had a car port style thing over our front door area. A hail storm put holes into the plastic roof.

WE claimed. Think they went someone to look at it.? Then we got a quote and they apid us and we paid the man I think It was quite a while ago though.

SoupDragon · 19/01/2007 19:57

What do you want to claim for?

Donbean · 19/01/2007 19:58

if you've got accidental damage on your contents you shouldn't have a problem.

you need to think about the excess, the no claims discount and the likely impact on your renewal quote to decide if worthwhile....

We had a flood through our kitchen ceiling when the washer hose failed upstairs - hot water gushing for quite a long time, kitchen floor inches deep in water, ceiling down, cupboards etc damaged, horrible mess.

Ceiling was replastered, whole kitchen re painted, damaged doors replaced and also toaster and dustbuster which were in the line of fire. I think a bloke came round to inspect but it's such a long time ago I can't remember

Insurer was Alliance & Leicester (our mortgage is with them)

Yes, house is subsiding!

With carpets you can only claim if you HAVEN'T touched it or tried to clean it up, except mopping it up with a towel or something. They will send people out to try and clean it up themselves. What have you done?

brimfull · 19/01/2007 20:31

We claimed unsuccessfully witha lounge carpet.
Dh put an electric fire down and it left huge scorch stripes. When he spoke to them on the phone they asked if there were any flames. He said "no,he'd noticed just on time"
They then said that we wouldn't be covered because there were no flames ...wtf!

We did claim again for burnt curtains.I burnt huge holes in them with candles. No problem getting recompensed for them and they were £400 !

Have also claimed for flooding due to plumbing disaster.

My mom just claimed for carpet that DS damaged (knocked a plant over)
She tried to clean it but to no avail. The insurer sent a cleaner/inspector and they are now getting new

Next door fell off her ladder painting the living room - paint everywhere - they got new carpet, and new suite because they couldn't match the old one, even though only one piece was damaged.

MamaMaiasaura · 19/01/2007 20:37

I'm wondering now if I could claim for our broken hearth.A vase fell off the mantle ,hit the tiled hearth and broke a huge chunk off .Vase was unbroken weirdly enough.
