Please

I'm trying to find a good cheap telephone package for my mum for her new telephone addiction after my dad died.
Her friend recommended Talktalk from the Carphone Warehouse, but a quick search on the internet revealed their Internet broadband add on appeared to be bunkum - not that that matters to my mum as she doesn't have a computer but the inference was that their customer service was rather lacking.

Any views much appreciated.

I'm on BT option 2 - we got a special deal where we got the line rental half price for the first 6mths. Calls are free evenings and weekends and we have the friends and family thing where you nominate a series of numbers and then when the calls aren't free you get certain discounts on them. Our broadband is through AOL but we're going to switch to sky as its free. We did onetel for our calls for a point (now talk talk) but switched back as we were paying a subscription fee which negated the free calls and the minute we signed up we got swamped with allsorts of maketing and sales calls as they'd allowed our number to go on a general list even though we are ex directory.
I think BT is great - my mum also recommends tescos.

I had my phone calls through Talk Talk and my line rental through BT on Option 1. I thought Talk Talk were brilliant and never had any problem, but recently we switched the whole thing back to BT as there prices had come down on Option 3 and because we use some of their services like Caller Display which are free on Option 3 it made more sense. I think the launch of the internet thing and the demand for it took Talk Talk by surprise and they weren't adequately staffed to cope with it - and suspect that comments of poor customer service probably relate to that period of time rather than a general thing. HTH.
