Now Tom is 9 months, and 22lbs, we are looking for a carseat. We have seen a Recaro one in Halfords for £150 and I like the Mamas & Papas one for £80 in Argos. We also saw a Britax one reduced in John Lewis. There is just so much choice! We need 2. One for us and one for the Grandparents.

Any advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Generally they aren't as safe or convenient to use as single stage ones (see Which ? reports) and don't have as many features useful for little ones like a good, easy to use recline for in car sleeping. However we have the Britax Evolva 123 Ultra which uses a harness up to 18kg, then becomes a highback booster seat . it has adjustable sides to make sure it is cosy for smaller ones and the headrest is easy to move. You do have to fix the (slight) recline when you install it though, otherwise it is fairly upright, and the fitting into the car can be tight and not suitable for all models.

If you decide to go for a single stage (up to 18kgs ish) one instead the Maxi Cosi Tobi and Priori models, Britax Duo isofix and Mamas and Papas Protec all came recommended by Which ?

The Only group 1-3 car seat that the which report has ever even rated as slightly safe, well actually it was "ok-ly safe" bit not excellent (where some group 1 car seats were excellent)... was the britax evolva..

all of the otehr multigroup seats which has ever tessted have been in a 'unsafe dont buy these seat' section

so based on that id go for the britax evolva (NOT britax trio, now branded as fisherprice in some places)

alternativly should you want your child to be reallY safe when travelleing u cant go to far wrong with a maxi cosi group 1 car seat
