small car ......3 children

I don't have children but want to be able to take friends children out easily. So looking for a car that can take 3 car seats in the back, but won't be huge when it's just me. Thoughts please people.

how old are the kids? Do they need bulky seats?

Lots of cars won't fit 3 car seats in the back, let alone a small car. It depends also on the car seat. Would you be buying car seats separately or borrowing your friends ones? Age of children is also relevant - booster seats take less space than car seats for toddlers.
I would speak to the friends in question and see what their arrangements are.

The oldest is 5. Currently not planning to get car seats but borrow my friends.

I've a vauxhall meriva that has two high backed seats in and could also fit a small booster in the middle.
