How the xxxxing heck do you get batteries in the (Thomas) James engine?

Can anyone save my sanity please? We have a green engine (not sure if it is James) from the Thomas and Friends range and I'm buggered if I can find out where the batteries go.
Would be SO SO grateful for anyone with more intelligence than me to help!
In our Thomas version you find a tiny screw in the funnel and then snap the top off, but doesn't seem to be the case here.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

keep looking for tiny screws, sometimes a cover comes off if you squeeze the sides, too.

LadyTophamHatt · 27/12/2006 17:54

Squeeze half way down either side of PERCY, there shouldbe a little, sort of hook/clip going through the base of the engine.

The wole top will come off and the abtteries go under.

I had this nightnare a few yrs ago. It seems some are unscrewed whereas some are just these funny squeezy side things/

venusinfurs · 27/12/2006 17:56

Oh thank you both so much. I will try!

Nope, still can't do it! It is number 3, green.....any other suggestions anyone? Maybe not Percy? Have tried all the screws too!

Can you find it online so we can see a pic, maybe I have something similar at home.

Sometimes you have to squeeze sides and slide it off, too.

tassis · 27/12/2006 18:08

james - red
percy - green

no idea about batteries, sorry

flack · 27/12/2006 18:08

Oh, and that's deffo HENRY, not James, James is RED, for heaven's sake, dont' you realise? James used to be black (in theoriginal stories) but red ever since, only red engine of the main characters. Henry was afraid of spoiling his green paint, Tuttuttutttt..., you really haven't been reading enough stories, have you?

flack · 27/12/2006 18:09

and yes, yes, I did have a life, once, it's just lost somewhere under the piles of TtTE books.

ludaloo · 27/12/2006 18:10

um Henry is green too I think...
Are you sure it isn't little clips...you need a screwdriver to sort of lever the clippy bits out.....

Gingerbear · 27/12/2006 18:17

is there a funnel? Have a look down there for a tiny screw. With James, the black front section comes off when you release this screw and the batteries fit into the body through the front section.

whoopsfallenoffthexmastree · 27/12/2006 18:29

Do they go in the tender? I know on the tomica one that is where they go

venusinfurs · 27/12/2006 19:18

Thank you everybody. Um, Whoops...what is the tender? at my lack of rail engineering knowledge....It is definitely Henry, have just looked it up.
I have looked inside the funnel and there isn't a screw there and squeezed the sides until my eyes bulge, still to no avail!

the tender is where the coal is stored - the bit that is attached to the back of the engine.

whoopsfallenoffthexmastree · 27/12/2006 19:20

the tender is the bit that carries the coal! Don't worry I had to ask ds what the tender was at first

Gingerbear · 27/12/2006 19:20

What make is he? could you search for the website?

venusinfurs · 27/12/2006 19:28

Hurrah! Thank you Whoops, it was indeed in the tender! Tender, tender, tender!...see how much I know about trains? Look! There goes the 7.25 to Cheltenham! Sorry, am overexcited now and might run around in circles like a dog for a minute.
Thanks so much everyone for your help and especially the fabulous Whoops.
