I didn't know you could at all. I thought they were just in the order you bought them in.

Katymac · 02/01/2016 17:44

You can sort them on your Kindle by Author, when you bought them or title - you can also create collections of books

But as I have over 3000 I need something a little more flexible

Does it use the Kindle collections or will I need to start again?

Any advise on using it? Do the books download or just the titles?

Kindle downloads the entire book from any device.
If you have books that are in a non kindle format you can also convert them for kindle or whatever. I use it all the time as I have different readers that all use different formats. And I am not buying multiple copies of books.

You can use calibre to sort out the books however you want.

The kindle itself is a bit crap on managing collections I find tbh. I don't keep a lot of books on it anymore, mind you still 150+ .. But I use calibre to sort my books. It really is a library, you can do loads of things with it to organise. It loads the books, not just the titles. I think it might use the kindle collections but I'm not sure because I don't use it like that.

I have a paperwhite which I love for reading at night - but the collections is an absolute disaster!!

Fairly certain I don't want all my books on my computer.....it's slow enough as it is!!

I have an old notebook computer and a few thousand books in my calibre library. It doesn't make it slower.

RhuBarbarella · 04/01/2016 21:41

..but i do have a big hard drive., so its just a file.

bloodyteenagers · 04/01/2016 23:45

I have them on a usb calibre does a lighter version for portable devices.
Plus if you bought the books from Amazon they should still be on your account

Katymac · 10/01/2016 19:01

OK I'm downloading the ones on my Kindle

But how do I get the ones from the cloud?

Download "Kindle for PC" from Amazon, download your books from the cloud and then copy them over to Calibre.

You can then delete your Kindle file, so that you only have then saved on Calibre.
