can forward facing car seats go in the front seat with an air bag, or should they still go in the back?

You can use forwards facing seats if air bags fitted, but they recomend you put the cars seat back as far as possible so they are not too close to the bag should it inflate.

it really ise VERY dangerosue to put any child car seat or not on a seat with an airbag...

they are desigend for adults and can Kill children under 12 years old...

do NOT do it unless your specific manufacturer has confirmed to you that it is safe

I had been confused over whether you can use the car seat in the front if foreward facing.
We have been given a courtersy car, its only a three door, the car seat does not fit in the back very well. We only have the car for til after Xmas.
Yesterday my DH had taken out of the back as I was travelling in a different car with her. Seeing as he'd struggled for about an hour to fit it in the back, I had wondered if she was okay in the front for today as I could not get the car see in by myself.

well its all about if you crash really!

Obviously if you dont... then we will all be fine... regadless of weather we are in car seats or even strapped in....

BUT if you crash (the reason fro seat belts and car seats) the air bags can kill... weather you use the car for 1 day... or 1journey it doenst really matter!

children in the states have been decapitated by airbags in the front seat

ELF1981 · 17/12/2006 22:18

I appreciate that, I had been looking for clarification. The car seat will be in the back tomorrow. Its just all the adverts I have seen re the car seat and air bags show rear facing and I wondered if foreward facing mattered with air bags because of the way they sit.

sorry x posts - the "appreciate that" comment was re the "only if you crash" post, not trying to make light of children in the states dying

Sorry if I mis-informed you, obviously there has been a major change in advise from when I worked in mothercare, the advise then was to make sure the cars own seat was as far back as possible.

Can't u turn the airbag off?

ELF1981 · 17/12/2006 23:51
