With the arrival off dd I invested in a DVD camcorder to save having to do all that recording onto tape or disc or whatever.
Great-except the bloody mini-discs won't play in either of my dvd players-what am I doing wrong?

Anyone else got one and wiling to let me in on the secret?

Pleeeeeese.Off on hold on Sunday and at the moment don't see the point of taking the damn thing....know I would regret it if not though.

I might be wrong, but you need to check the format of the dvd to see if it is compatible. I bought a camcorder that saves onto a hard drive and then need to download to a pc and convert it to a compatible file. My DVD player is 4 years old though and does not read the new DVD's! You'd think they will make sure these things are generally compatible.

I would suggest you ask someone else with a different DVD player to test it on their machine to see if it works, that way you'll have an idea of where to start looking for the problem.

Hiya - you need to finalize the disc.... although when you do that you can't record on it again so make sure you're finished! Then it will play in the dvd.... If you need more help give me a shout!

Which camcorder is it?

IWhoooooshYouamerryXmas · 15/12/2006 13:18

Oh yes,yes,yes-maybe a solution! Thank you for replying.

How the feck do I finalise the disc?

It's a Panasonic VDR-D150 which apparently has (according to the sticker on it) multi format recording.....

Ok - I'll just look it up and see if it's similar to mine - I'm pretty sure it will just need finalizing though (or had you done that bit already?)

onzephyrstdayofchristmas · 15/12/2006 13:25

ok - it's virtually the same as mine. When you are finished with the disc, somewhere in the on screen menu you will find an option to finalise... will prob have to look it up in the manual... but that's what it does to convert it from recording on camcorder to playing in dvd.

Thanks so much Zeph-just need ot either find the bloomin manual or just have a play around.
One other quick question-if I use a double sided disc, can I finalise one side to prevent me from recording over it and then use the other side.

So sorry this is probably a really dumb question....

Ummm.... I'm not sure about that one - I didn't know you could get them! But I would think yes - don't see why not

Hope you manage to do it!! We've had ours since July and I'm sure I'm only doing about 1% of what it can do!!!

onzephyrstdayofchristmas · 15/12/2006 14:22

You should also have a lead to plug from the camcorder into the dvd player or tv - that way you can watch it on tv before you finalise it

IWhoooooshYouamerryXmas · 15/12/2006 14:53

Thanks so much for your help.

Hopefully once you've finalised it,it will work, but we bought a dvd camcorder last christmas and have exactly the same problem. We can only use either DVD-RAM or DVD-R disc's in our model and have been told that even once finalised we can only watch it straight through the dvd player if we have a recordable multi systems drive dvd player, which we haven't.
It's really annoying as we can only watch it by plugging the camcorder into the tv and if we knew that beforehand,we'd have bought a different model.
Hope you don't have the same problem.
