Anyone got one of these booster seats? Any good? They look ideal for our DD who's 2.5 but a good size and weight and whose current Duo seat will soon be in demand from DS. Ta.

I don;t want to get into an arguement about this but I would not put a child that young into a booster seat no matter what the manufacturer says unless you can be absolutely sure that you are never going to go on a journey where the child won;t fall asleep and flop forward - I know it says its ok on the website but a while ago there was a huge study on car safety and children of that age should not be in a boosetr seat - if they do fall asleep and flop forward and you have a crash they are not adequately restrained.

My DD is very nearly 4 and I only go out with her on journeys where I know she is not going to go to sleep as someone who's family was ripped apart by a car accident I take this stuff very seriously and look into it in great detail and am not saying that you are putting your child at risk but a britax renaissance or something like that can be used until a child is at least 5 and then a booster seat can be used.

Sorry meant bever going on a journey where the child will fall asleep - this was also publicised on GMTV during their road safety campaign a short while ago.

Bear

Try the Britax Trio. We had one of these in our previous car and the harness fits up to 4 years. It can then be taken out and converted to a high back and then a cushion type booster lasting up to 11 years. It did its job too, as our car overturned on the M6 recently and my 3 year old ds only ended up with a very small bruise on his cheek and no other injuries .

Twinkie, I agree with you. Its about time people started taking car safety a little more seriously, after our experience I know I do.

HTH

(Like the new e by the way Bear )

Thanks Twinkie (and Bagpuss) - will think more about it. I appreciate it.

Have n't seen the one in question but personally I don't like the ones with a booster seat/adult belt combination for one so young (interesting that although they are "approved" from 9 months/20kg the manufacturers now put a higher weight recomemndation on them ). We have used for example a Klippan/Kwikfit combination seat for dd who is almost 3 in a hire car. It has both a 5 point harness and can be used as a booster with adult belt later (as we have for ds who is 6). There is no way I would use it with just the belt for dd, she would rattle around too much and it was uncomfy for her to fall asleep in. Admittedly the Jane looks more enclosed and flexible than this. We have a Maxi Cosi Rodi for ds in our car which can be used from 15kg which is similar style - but he didn't go into it until almost 4.

Have you considered any of the ones with a 5 point harness which you could remove later ? Think Britax do one.

Sorry Bear, just re-read my post and thought I sounded rather abrupt earlier! I wasn't getting at you for not taking car safety seriously, honest! . It was just an aside to Twinkie's comments as she'd brought the subject up. I actually now use a one piece booster (Cruiser I think) by Britax as most of their harnessed boosters (like Trio) don't fit in my new car . It was the only one I'd consider as the seat belt locks into the headrest bit so it ends up being very similar to a regular car seat. Jane seats have a good reputation though, don't they? I hope you find one that's suitable soon.

No worries Bagpuss - thanks again.
