Red Socks (for christmas stockings) in extra large - Where to buy?

I have 3 boys so really don't want to spend lots on chritmas stockings - so was thinking about some really large red socks in wool or cotton, the sort that climbers wear that are really thick and that I can stretch a bit.
Anyone seen any?

We always use old hiking socks - they're really stretchy and you can get plenty in. Try Millets, Oswald Bailey, Blacks - any outdoor shop would do really. Don't get anything fancy, you just want the plain, cheap, long, tube-type ones.

Not sure, but the pound shop usually has stockings (certainly ours has), and I can only imagine that climbing socks will be more expensive?

PSH, you're right that some hiking socks are expensive (dh spent £15 a pair on his last lot ), but you can get cheap and cheerful ones too - Oswald Bailey have three pairs of bog-standard hiking socks for £3.99 here or they sell single pairs for £1.99 each.

Poundshop would still be cheaper though

... the socks would last longer though. And you could use them to keep your feet warm too. Or to do the patented MN holding-the-telephone-to-your-ear-whilst-keeping-your-hands-free trick

Our poundshop ones get put in the decorations box each year, and have lasted us since birth so far. If I let them be worn and washed though I would lose at least one of them fairly quickly.

Or football socks? More than the pound shop, but cheaper than hiking socks...
