ADT security systems

I am having bloody nightmare with ADT who have been spectacularly unsuccessful in reconnecting my house to their alarm response unit and getting us up and running. We asked to reconnect two months ago when we moved in and we are STILL not connected despite 1 survey & two engineer visits. They are showing themselves to be complete muppets.

Anyone else had problems with them?

They are a bunch of money grabbing . I refuse to have my alarm system reconnected to them so it is utterly useless. I would prefer to fork out for a new box than pay them their required monthly fee or £90 per visit to rest the alarm whenever it goes off.

to reset the alarm ...

ok here's the full comedy of errors....

1). mid oct we move in and within 5 days a bloke has arranged a survey and we sign up to the full monty package.

  1. we hear nothing for 2 weeks. i call them and get fobbed off with some admin excuse.

  2. i call a week later - it turns out they needed to get the previous owners to cancel their agreement. they hadn't been informed of this requirement wihen they cancelled and once ADT still found out about it they didn't notify anyone that this had to be done.

  3. lots of phone calls later that problem gets sorted and i manage to arrange an enginer to do a check and demo visit - we are now 5 weeks since the initial survey.

  4. engineer booked to come btn 9am & 1pm. doesn't arrive until 4pm after i've phoned and gone nuts at them.

  5. engineer doesn't have the additional keypad requested and itemised on the survey form so he'll have to come back and fit it. he checks and "demos" the system, re-programmes the key fobs and goes on his merry way.

  6. leter that night when screaming toddlers are in bed i check the key fobs. only two out of 12 work so we can't give any to our named keyholders.

7.5) i use the alarm with the key fobs I have and manage to set it off. no-one calls to see if all ok but assume that as I cancelled the alarm they would know it was ok. had to call them tho to get them to remotely reset and they seemed unaware of the 'break-in' which I thought was odd but could also have been that they were just asking lots of extra questions.

  1. engingeer booked to come out again today and fit pad and re-do keyfobs for today. he arrives on time. lots of beeping and alarms then ensue and he announces that the alarm is not connected to a working phone line. This means that for 2 weeks we've had an alarm that we thought was working but all it was doing was making a noise. This means that had I pressed the panic buttons no police would have come, Worse however is that If the fire alarm had gone off there would have been no automatic call through to the fire brigade. I would not have called as I would have assumed it was all happening.

  2. I just checked re. payment so I could clout them with talk of refunds / discounts and they haven't even managed to set up the direct debit we gave them a mandate for.

Am so bloody angry. How can I trust this company to sort us out in an emergnecy if they can't even get the basic preliminary bits right??

I've gone on and one about it because I'm so furious. Sorry.

Oh god am ranting a bit now but have just realised that as I believed it was all connected I would not have called 999 for help in an emergency and that means ADT put us in a more vulnerable position for two weeks than had we not had an alarm at all.

Sorry if it seems that I'm over-reacting but we live in a house with no immediate neighbours and my DH has been out of the country this week leaving me alone with two toddlers.

As I said, they are utterly cr*p. If you can,I'd look at other alternatives.

Find another company, WHen i worked we had nothing bur probelms with then as they are CRAP.

We had a sales man from them knock at our, i told him we wasn't interested and he was asking questions about the alarm we have eg who its with, what make it is at which point i told it was none of his business and i wouldn't touch ADT with a barge pole as they are crap.
