the jane lie flat is not a very safe seat at all to use when in the flat mode (accoroding to indepenadant which magazine tests!)(though is perfecty safe when being used as a conventional car seat.... though often you seem to need longer seat belts to strap it in!

personally i would not put a baby in that car seat whiles lieing flat and travelling in a car!

apart from that jane stuff is supposed to be quite good!

i bought one of these five years ago when they were a new idea, and can honestly say i have never used it lie-flat in the car, because i could never get it strapped in to my satisfaction. And agree that seatbelts can be too short when it is in normal seat mode(i could put in a clio but not a mondeo)But it was useful as a pram/carrycot etc. when the LOs were tiny.

i love my nomad, and i loved having the lie flat car seat. i made some enquiries into the safety tests and while i can't remember the details (i was pregnant, it's a bit hazy) i was satisfied that the tests hadn't been like for like and bought it anyway.
frankly, given the the car seat attaches directly to the chassis of the car, is hugely well-padded and the strap is a ginormous belt around the abdomen and chest i can't see that it would be less safe than a sit-up one with a five-point harness.
dd loved it, and it was excellent for using as a pram. one of the reasons i went for the jane was because my seatbelts are short, and the matrix fitted fine. (obviously i had it done by a jane-trained fitter.)
i really can't recommend it enough, actually. it feels sturdy but it's neat enough, it's got sprung wheels that i like for bumping up stairs and it looks good.
