Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaase

I want to buy DH an MP3 player for Christmas but my budget isn't massive. I was going to buy the 2GB Samsung , but I caught sight of one by PLAYPRO and wondered whether there was a massive difference in quality (both sound quality and build quality). I assume that PlayPro is a play.com own brand (given that it has the little play symbol on it and it is sold exclusively through play.com)

Both have significant discounts on them atm and so are within my budget. I see that the Play one has a 15 hour playback and the samsung has a 35 hour playback but other than that what is the difference and which is the best value for money ?

Thanks

I have seen a few reviews for the Samsung when I was researching buying one a few weeks ago and all have been very good, so I would go with that one, tbh - Samsung also have a good reputation.

Probably not much help but just wanted to let you know you are not alone out there!

thanks moonshine

TBH, I suspected as much but I was hoping I'd be bombarded with 'PlayPro are fabbo' type responses and I'd save myself £40.

I have an ipod, which I love, but an ipod for DH is just too far out of my £££

Why not get him an iPod shuffle NDP? I love mine.

moonshine · 05/12/2006 14:38

The Shuffle is on offer in Argos atm isn't it? But it doesn't hold many songs. Tbh, I have resolved not to go down the ipod road and have bought a Creative Zen V - most of the Zen's are supposed to be excellent value but probably still out of your budget? iRiver also have a very good reputation and do some good value ones I think but I'm not sure how many songs the cheaper ones hold - now I'm being really helpful aren't I .

NoXmasNameForNomDePlume · 05/12/2006 14:39

The problem with the shuffle is that it is too small, not enough capacity. DH would use his for audiobooks mainly and so it needs to hold 2GB minimum. Thanks anyway

The Zens are about the same money as ipods.

I've gone for the Samsung, I'm sure he'll be thrilled with it.

How about one of these ?
or you could ebay it, for example here or here . You could contact the seller direct and ask how much they'd want to sell it there and then, if you want to avoid getting into a last minute bidding war. Otherwise I'd go for the Samsung I'm afraid!

MossletoeAndWine · 05/12/2006 14:42

Sorry got caught up in work didn't see all the xposts!

moonshine · 05/12/2006 14:42

I've got the 4GB version of this but think there is a cheaper version without the radio. It is tiny and meant to be excellent quality

moonshine · 05/12/2006 14:43

Still think the Samsung is a good choice though.

I prefer the ones with displays on them, not so bothered about them being weeny.

Thanks for the suggestions though
