Not impressed by our new Playmobil advent calendar!

We've had a Playmobil calendar for years - since ds1 was teeny - and, tbh, I was getting a bit bored of it. The kids know what's in all the boxes now "oooh...it's a reindeer today" "Santa's sleigh's in here" etc. so when I saw one in our toy shop I decided it was time for a new one.

Put it together tonight - the quality is not a patch on the old one The Playmobil is as good as ever but they've definitely cut corners on the rest - the cardboard scene is really thin, flimsy cardboard (the original was thick, glossy board) and the boxes are the same - really flimsy and some were not cut properly. Can't see this one lasting 8+ years.

Really disappointed - Playmobil is always such good quality and so reliable - can't see why they have cut corners like this. Boo hiss to Playmobil!

We've got the new playmobil advent calendar too. Never got one in the past so nothing to compare it to, but the scene does seem really flimsy.

Think it's going to go down well here though.

Oh it will - my two are going to be so excited when they see we've got a new one (even the far too grown up for such things nearly 10 year old ). I might glue the scene on to some stronger cardboard after Christmas.

You know the backing board for the calendar - the bit you hang the boxes on? That's made of the same cardboard that the old scene was made of - quite a difference.

It was my dp who put the boxes together, so i dont know what is inside them, so I'm quite looking forward to seeing too.

only ever had one advent calendar myself!

I remember when it was just pictures on your advent calendar (which you nagged your Mum to buy from the corner shop). Kids these days - don't know they're born

Ooh marthamoo, you've just brought back memories. I remember those too.

We have three of the Playmobil Advent calendars now, all purchased in various sales over the years (got last year's for £2.97 in a card shop- what a bargain), so that we can rotate them. If we are re-using one, we swap some of the 'presents/figures' into different boxes. Have the large Playmobil nativity scene too and a smaller christmas scene (Santa, parents, kids) with a light up tree.

We love these as much as the kids. With the nativity scene, we tend to start with only a few figures in place then each night we add some more and/or re-arrange those there for the boys to see next day (and do a snippet of the nativity story with them as well each day).

I've just been doing this too! Ours is the living room in the house set, with a tree, a Santa and a fireplace. I have set it all up for DS to wake up to and now I need a GIN!

I am keen to get the animal nativity set as well....Hmmmmm

This is the the Christmas room

and here is the main Nativity scene

plus the Three Wise Men
