We are going to try our dd 23 months with a bed due to sudden dislike of sleeping in her cot, has slept in our bed for last week!

She is small for her age so I need a small bed also do the Ikea beds come with side bars.

Or are there any other suitable tiny beds out there from other retailers.

Thanks

we have ikea toddler bed - it has the top and bottom of the bed that 'flip up' or 'down' depending on how long you want the bed

its been fine, dd has been in it since about 15/16 m and is 5 now
need another one for dd2 now

think you can get a side bar but its v low to ground, i didn't use one

ikea do a range of toddler beds. SOme come with side bars and some don't but you can buy the bars seperately.

We have just got ds one of their other children's beds and are really impressed with it.

JackieNo · 30/11/2006 22:03

OUrs has been great. You can buy the side bars separately.

Piffle · 30/11/2006 22:04

we got the ikea vikare which starts off with padded head and foot rest and side bar but as your child gets taller you can flip down the head and/or feet to make into standard single size
this bed suits our dd who has been in it since 2.5 yrs
we do use the sidebar mostly as dd loves it and often sleeps wraped around it with her leg over it

FestivelyFrostyFloss · 30/11/2006 22:06

We got one at the start of the month. DS is brilliant in it, it is sturdy and nice and we are very pleased with it.

JackieNo · 30/11/2006 22:06

I think that's the one we've got, Piffle. Soon-ish to be passed down from DD to DS, I suspect.

hunkermunker · 30/11/2006 22:06

I could've written Piffle's post, except I have a 2.7yo DS who loves his Ikea bed

We both have children who sleep with their legs over the side bars! I'm hoping he grows out of needing them before he takes a wife

Thanks for all the feed back. Trip to Ikea this weekend. It is comforting to hear from this thread and others in the sleep section that toddlers have been introduced successfully from as young as 16 months to a bed.

Hope this will help our dd to get to sleep.

Thanks all

ps will cot bedding fit Ikea beds or do they sell their own? Thinking of bottom fitted sheet as dd uses a grobag.

We don't have bars. Our bed kind of comes up at the sides at the top and bottom. We put a duvet down on the floor for the first couple of weeks. He fell out the night before last.

ilovecaboose · 30/11/2006 22:19

ikea have a different standard size for mattresses to the uk. Its often better to buy the fitted bedding there as teh other stuff doesn't always fit.

FestivelyFrostyFloss · 30/11/2006 22:19

It fits the bed we got, as I found out after I got home and brought new sheets and duvet .

FestivelyFrostyFloss · 30/11/2006 22:21

here is ours

Frizbe · 30/11/2006 22:43

We've got a black metal one for dd1, however someones child from Mansfield did die in the same type of bed, when she managed to get her head thru the bars and asphyxiated herself

hunkermunker · 30/11/2006 22:48

This is the one we have I find it v comfy too - would cheerfully sleep there with DS1 if he'd let me

Gem13 · 30/11/2006 22:59

We have 2 Ateles - FFF's one. Really pleased with them and my senior mother has just slept in one and said it was comfortable.

DD has been in hers since before 2 and only fallen out once. It's not far to the floor and anyhow her Grobag softened the fall!

Piffle · 01/12/2006 11:24

we got the same as Hunker
Think when new baby (due march ) goes into a bed, s/he will get dd's bed and dd will get a more grown up bed - presuming she grows of course...
They are such good value
FWIW single fitted sheets are what we use now that the bottom end is flipped down, they are too big but tuck in nicely.

peegeeweegee · 01/12/2006 13:34

We have the Ateles, first bought 6 years ago for ds, now still used by dd (she is nearly 4) Both of mine went into the Ateles at around 20 months, neither ever fell out, both loved it!!

When dh assembled it he screwed and glued it, so it is rock solid!!

Very very very pleased with it, can highly recommend!!
