I think dd2 would like a ride-on toy for Christmas. Any recommendations?

I love the look of these

TooTickyDoves · 27/11/2006 11:49

I like the idea of the trailer, but we have found in the past that ELC's toys are Not Terribly Sturdy. Hmm. Now I am v. tempted by the wheely bugs - handy for small spaces too.

wheelybug? 50 quid but sturdy, long lasting and look nice.

hana · 27/11/2006 11:51

wheely bugs are fab.
but expensive

aDadOnMumsnet · 27/11/2006 11:52

sorry just noticed already suggested!

doormat · 27/11/2006 11:52

one of the little tykes coupes are good
ds3 has had his for 4 yrs and it is still going strong
doesnt belt into the furniture and woodwork as bad as other ones do
sturdy
you can get them in pink

Ellaroo · 27/11/2006 12:06

Would agree that Wheely Bugs are fantastic to look at and our children love theirs - one of the best things we've bought. Be aware though that you are not meant to use them outdoors as it damages the castors.

wheelybug · 27/11/2006 12:12

I can't recommend the wheelybug highly enough ! However, we have wooden floors and its brilliant on that but don't know how effective they would be on carpet ?

They really are worth the money - my dd had hers for her first birthday and at almost 2 she uses it more and more. Even my 4 year old goddaughter uses it so it will last a while !!

TooTickyDoves · 27/11/2006 12:15

We have a little tykes coupe in the garden which she likes sitting in.
Wheely bug it is then, I think. Thanks

they are fine on carpets too

hana · 27/11/2006 12:17

ohhhh
think i might ahvew to get one for dd2 for her 2nd birthday now.....!

ernest · 27/11/2006 12:17

prob with wheelie bug is there is no little compartment under seat. All 3 of mine have had thier turn with a chicco train ride on that you lift up the seat and they can stash their valuables in. Ds1 esp did this and when he'd gone to bed it was my fav. time of day to peek in and see what his stash of the day was. 10 cars, a few forks and a couple of biscuits for example.

Seriously, I'd say the little compartment under seat was a must, all 3 of mine have loved it. Ours has had constant use for over 5 years, been top toy and still going strong. Plus it had little levers and buttons. big thumbs up. And ours been used inside & out with no problems. This site says up to 2.5 years, but I would go much older. Well my boys have loved theirs

Another fan of the wheelie bug - fine on carpets
and other flooring but wouldn't use it outside. I would recommend the larger size though as it'll last longer - expensive though.
If anyone is looking for a larger ride-on (3+)we recently bought a Bobby quad for DD from
www.e-niko.co.uk. For various reasons we wanted one without pedals on which she could propel herself along. Really pleased with it!

cupcakes · 27/11/2006 12:55

ds got the small bumble bee wheelie bug for his first birthday and still squeezes on it now - he's six and a half. It's definitely been the best buy toy in our house - am thinking of buying dd the ladybird (in the bigger size) for her birthday.
One of the castors broke recently and I phoned the company about getting a replacement and they sent me a new castor free of charge. And this is after having 5 years of solid use. Fab, fab company.

LadyTophamHatt · 27/11/2006 13:10

No...you have to get one of these

We got one for Ds3 for his 2nd Birthday and he still oves it...as does 5yr old ds2 and 7 yr old Ds1 given the chance.

It it FAB!

cupcakes · 27/11/2006 13:13

But you can't spin around in circles on that.

LadyTophamHatt · 27/11/2006 13:20

wanna bet??

Ds2 skids across the floor at an alarm rate....much to my horror!
(DS3 hasn't quite mastered the skid yet )

aDadOnMumsnet · 27/11/2006 13:20

oh thought I should add that i occasionally have a sit on our wheelie bug and it seems to cope fine!
