MP3 SUITABLE for kids - help

Am thinking of one for my very technically able 9-yr-old. Doesn't have to be flash and not expensive - anyone got one for their child? Make/models etc?
I know there is a £50 designed for kids but research suggests it ain't worth the money (reports of it stopping after 2 months)

My dd got an Ipod shuffle for her 9th birthday. It's been fine - and has plenty of streeet cred. I suspect that one specially designed for children would't be cool enough for this age group! We are an Apple Mac family and the Shuffle plugs straight into my laptop. No cables to lose!

bit too expensive for us, I'm afraid - we can spend around £30 I think - anyone got one of the cheapy Asda ones?

fmf if I remember correctly the deal instore was buy the MP3 and speakers together for £20 but the player alone is £15...technika brand - tesco's own I think

I saw a really nice looking one in Sainsbury's today for 24.99 - it was an own brand.
