Recommendations for run-around second car

We have a nearly new people carrier that I love but we have realised the need for a second car as a run around to ferry the dc to all their activities in different directions, mainly at weekends.

The budget could stretch to £1500-£2000 and we could cope with a small car, even with only three doors as it wouldn't be used with everyone at once. We would have a booster seat and normal car seat in it.

Dh and I aren't car people so would be clueless buying privately, although realise it would be cheaper.
Can someone recommend the cheapest, newest most reliable car we could afford for this budget?
TIA!

One of the guys here bought a 2008 Ford Fiesta for around 3,000. He's had it for 5 years now and found no problems with it.

A bit over the budget but for what you want it's probably best.

Kia picanto. You could afford a high spec brand new. I have 1 litre ZR7. No road tax and economical.

Oh dear. Sorry. I saw an extra zero in the budget. Must read more carefully.
