I've used Organic Delivery for 5 years and can heartily recommend them if you live in the London area (no not on commission, nor work for them, just refreshing when you get an excellent service!) Wonderful fresh fruit & veg for home delivery...we're moving out of London so won't be using them any more . Anyone know of something similar in Berkshire?

Zolapola - I was thinking of doingthis as supermarket veg is so awful! What is the web address?

ZolaPola · 08/05/2004 12:37

It's www.organicdelivery.co.uk
They're a really friendly small company based in convent garden, have preferred them to some of the bigger, national companies - think food is much better, as is service. Hope you like it!

Abel and Cole (www.abel-cole.co.uk) are based in Brixton but deliver outside London. We get deliveries from them here in Oxfordshire.

hewlettsdaughter · 08/05/2004 15:33

Same here OldieMum!

Soapbox · 08/05/2004 18:54

We use abel-cole as well. When we moved from Blackheath organic delivery didn't come out as far as here. Abel-cole are very good. There meat and fish are good value, which is not something I normally associate with organic delivery food! The mixed fruit and veg box is good too!

ZolaPola · 08/05/2004 19:08

Thanks, I'll check that out. BTW, Soapbox, we're moving from Blackheath too

ZolaPola · 09/05/2004 11:13

thanks Marina - lots of ex-Blackheatites out there, mostly still missing it...
Curious to know what you miss most , btw?
looking forward to being out west anyway (esp now i've got my fruit & veg!)

Oh, the architecture, the Heath, the Park, the organic butcher and fab healthfood shop at the Standard, being walking distance from most of our friends, our hairdressers, our church (where we were married etc...) Don't get me started, ZolaPola I think you are probably going somewhere as nice or nicer - we did the flat in nice area to house in much less fashionable area trade-off. Our local park bristles with shattered alcopops bottles and dog turds...the Co-op stopped selling its entire organic food range a month after we moved in...but the neighbours are nice and the schooling situation overall is heaps better.

ZolaPola
Meat Matters (Wantage 01235 762461) are excellent. As well as meat (obviously) they do fruit &/or veg. boxes in various sizes, as well as fish, fruit juice and other things. They will certainly deliver in Berkshire, either using their own vans or courier.

ZolaPola · 23/06/2004 00:44

oldiemum & soapbox - tried able & cole and they were excellent, thanks! Said I found out about them through personal recommendation - they asked for details so if either or both of you e-mail me I can cite you as my recommender and you get a free bottle of organic olive oil.
Hectic - thanks I'll try that company you mention too for meat.

Zolapola - thx I will contact you trhough mumsnet.

Just so you know - Abel & Cole also do meat and fish. They are both excellent - lamb, sausages and fish cakes in particular! I now have a two week rotating order which includes 4 bits of fish or meat per week. With the eggs I also have delivered and the milk and yoghurt I can just about last out the weekdays and only have to shop for little bits of extras for the weekend!

I had some people over for dinner last weekend and went to the village butcher in Blackheath for a fillet of beef! I soooo love that butcher adn really miss having it on my doorstep!

Hope you are settling in in Berkshire.

ZolaPola · 23/06/2004 00:59

John Charles, the one in the village with the rosy cheeks? He's lovely - used to give me titbits for my cats when they were tiny...
Settling in here, but weird - so much noisier than Blackheath, but see cows & horses!
Currently eating lots & LOTS of salads thanks to the wonderful (huge) box & salad bag we got on Mon from Abel & Cole...keeps us regular..

Zolapola - try the bottled fruit juices from Sedlescombe that they sell. They are the best I've ever tasted.

OldieMum · 23/06/2004 22:54

Zolapola. I tried to contact you, but mumsnet says that you have opted for messages not to be passed on to you.

ZolaPola · 23/06/2004 23:03

had I? sorry, I probably registered in a rush, hadn't meant to do that. will amend now if you want to try again later.

We use Abel and Cole at school. Its a bit of a moneymaking thing for the Pta.

Basically, people order a week in advance (or half termly if they want) and all the bags are delivered to school once a week where you pick it up. The PTA gets 25% commission on all sales.
I love their stuff and as its a bit of a lucky bag, you sometimes get things you wouldn't normally try.

carlyb · 24/06/2004 03:18

I am just about to order a able and cole mixed fruit and veg box (the 16 pounds 40p one). Does anybody know how much of each thing you get (for instance how many apples?) thanks

carlyb · 24/06/2004 14:55

bump! anybody know?

ZolaPola · 25/06/2004 11:54

don't know - don't think they guarantee set number, depends on what's in season, availability etc, why don't you call them? They're v helpful
