Child safetyproofing large sliding metal edged mirror-fronted wardrobe doors

My two and a half year old son is ready to transition from cot to bed. I am worried about his fingers and toes getting hurt in the Sliderobe doors. I am not sure how these could be secured. I could use finger safe door protectors on the ends but that would still leave the danger of the floor rails. They are generally a bit of a hazard anyway because they're v heavy and pick up a lot of speed along the rails. Any ideas?
