Why do I need a fridge salad crisper? Is a plastic box not the same?

Does a fridge crisper have some sort of magical property?

Only both mine are trashed and I looked at replacing them - about £30 each, so £60. What? 2 plastic boxes would cost me less than a tenner. But is there any reason the actual salad crisper boxes are £50 better?

I would guess it's because they fit the fridge better. Mines less of a crisper more of a , I'll put it in there and remember in about a fortnight when it's slimy draw Hmm

Hmm, but if I find a plastic box that's a really good fit, will that do?

Or is it special plastic or something?

Neither of my boxes are square so wouldn't fit well, but they are just boxes

I've never understood how they keep your salad crisper than just on the shelf. What is the point of them

I thought maybe there's some technical reason why they're different from a bog-standard plastic box

Seeing as how they cost about £50 more. Hmm
