Actually, you just have to do an upgrade. I just did it on mine. Surf the site a bit, you may need to download the current version first then get the message link to the upgrade. It's quite good software and worth the effort, imo.

already have the avg free one ,but want a firewall thingy.Suppose I'lll have to pay.

Hmmm, there was something that popped up on my computer about the firewall. I think it did some kind of internal search and found a factory installed version? Not much help I guess, but see if you can get the AVG software to nose around in your computer for you before you buy.

I think I pulled up the AVG program and it had something on there. I'm on my work computer, unfortunately, so can't get more precise atm.

Don't know if you're still working on this, but try looking under the Windows Security Center. That's where I set up my firewall that came with XP I believe.
