Leather sofas.......Not sure what colour to buy

Right i am considering saving for a new sofa for the new house and have more or less decided that it will be a leather one.
Only thing is i'm not sure what colour to have. I would like a cream/beige one but how practical is that going to be with 3 kids. Are they easy to clean ??
Dp suggested a blue one but i'm not keen on that because then decor would always have to go with blue.
Only other colour i like is the chocolate colour.

What do you reckon choccie or cream ??

I have choccie ones - love them

Hulababy · 05/05/2004 21:40

We have a dark brown one in the antique tyoe effect. Great for a little one around as tiny nail stractes, etc. don't show up

funkydiva · 05/05/2004 21:49

Choccie ones here as well, and they are lovely!

madgirl · 09/05/2004 22:02

chockie here- we got ours about 3 weeks ago and are still really really pleased we went for it. everything comes off!

juniper68 · 09/05/2004 22:05

I have terracota and it's very servicable.

baldrick · 09/05/2004 22:08

we got second hand, deep red one, it's very warm looking and extremely comfortable and not too dark as to look dark

Branster · 09/05/2004 22:09

we have cream leather sofas. a nightmare to keep clean since dd started walking. marker pens stains are very difficult to get rid of and it shows every fingerprint ( a bit of chocolate here, a tiny red mark from a strawberry and so on). i ahve to wipe them daily and am sure it's not v. good for leather to be cleaned daily. go for dark brown.

serenequeen · 10/05/2004 06:43

got a distressed look deep brown one... very, very practical, hardly shows any marks and those that do wipe away with a damp cloth... am thinking we will need a couple more for our new house.

Nutcracker · 10/05/2004 09:25

Right have definatly decided to have the choccie brown ones. All i have to do now is save up for them

Chocolate definitely Nutty. Even just saying "I have a chocolate brown sofa" sounds yummy! I saw one in IKEA yesterday, very comfy but they don't do a sofa bed in that style. Hmmmm.

So go tell DP, you are right!

SecondhandRose · 12/05/2004 11:55

We have cream ones, nightmare, always disgusting with newspaper print. It washes off but it is still in grained grey. I know the other colours will be just as dirty but not so obvious. Brown sounds good or dark blue but don't go for trendy colours as you get bored of them.

BIBIBOO · 12/05/2004 14:39

NEVER buy cream sofas, leather or otherwise. Our baby isn't even here yet and the two of us have managed to get every stain imaginable on our leather sofas. They go a funny grey colour and cleaning them isn't much fun!

Lara2 · 12/05/2004 20:07

chocolate brown - shows no dirt, everything wipes off with babywipes - fantastic. Bought ours after the HUGE mistake of cream 'washable' fabric sofas. "Why????" We kept asking ourselves!

champs · 13/05/2004 00:16

i wanted some lovely cream ones, when i was buying leather sofa's. THey looked so nice but we went for black ones am very happy i did because the amount of stuff that gets spilled on them is frightening!!
baby wipes clean ours too

smellymelly · 13/05/2004 11:17

I've got a blue one, but now I'm bored with the colour. Also had to get a specialist out to check fading, which they have quite noticeably after only about 1 year. And he said blue doesn't hold it's colour well.

Definitely going for sqidgey brown ones in new house!!

Kayleigh · 13/05/2004 11:21

I'm still waiting for my navy blue leather suite to be delivered. Ordered on 12th Jan. Still bloody waiting. They reckon mid june now.
Ordered from COURTS. Please be warned, their customer service is non-existant.

CountessDracula · 13/05/2004 11:36

Kayleigh ring them and say that you will cancel the order. If you like I can put you in touch with my SIL who works for the Daily Express/Star - they have a Consumer Rights columnist who will chase it up for you, she had a problem with Habitat and they virtually gave her the sofa for free after he called and threatened to publish the story! And she got it the next week (having been told it would be months)

After it was all resolved he published anyway!!

Kayleigh · 13/05/2004 11:42

CD, we paid for sofas up front. I know I should cancel but it took me ages to find sofas i liked. And if they really are coming in june i am loathe to cancel and have to start process again. Plus at the moment we are up to an offer of £600 compensation so am unlikely to get better deal.

But getting to speak to anyone, is a nightmare. They never call back if they say they will and I am gradually losing the will to live !

If your SIL could help i would be so grateful.

Kayleigh · 13/05/2004 15:42

Thanks CD, you lovely vampire.

sponge · 13/05/2004 15:54

I've got a hugs chocolate brown leather bean bag. I live in it and so does dd who covers it in crisps, yoghurt, jam etc every day. I wipe it with a damp cloth and it's perfect.
We have navy sofas and despite the dark colour they look filthy most of the time. Show up all the food smudges etc. Looking to replace them v soon. Not with cream
