Digital Cameras

My mum (67 years) would like to buy a digital camera. She is interested in taking 'close-up' pictures; so, whilst requiring some features, she also needs to look at simplicity of use. Please prove my dh wrong (women and technolgy blah, blah, blah!) and advise your choice. TIA

Ahhh... - now I consider myself a total technophobe, but I bought one earlier this year.

I was told...

Lots of pixels
Get one with optical zoom not just digital zoom
a large screen is good
buy a camera where the lens is made by a lens manufacturer.
I've got a Pentax Optio 50L and I've been very pleased so far.

Mind you, I still get my husband to transfer the photos on to the computer, and I asked him to set up the software for me.
