Scratch repair on a Mazda?

Clairejessica123 · 19/05/2015 19:10

I went into the back of a 63 plate Mazda today at a roundabout. Didn't stop in time when a car pulled out in front of them. Here is a picture of the scratch that happened. Anyone have any idea on the repair? Thanks

That looks like a cracked bumper rather than a scratch. It needs inspecting underneath for further damage. Probably £5-800 for just the bumper and maybe £2-3k if damage underneath.

I would say it also needs a new bumper as they are not the same as the body of the car.

Not sure it will cost up to £800?! You will easily be able to buy a bumper online or from Mazda direct and get a cheapy garage to fot it. No more than a few hours work.

You forget painting there Bum and why should the owner agree to it going to a cheapy garage? It needs inspecting for further damage by a body shop anyway.

BumWad · 20/05/2015 08:15

Yea spose it'll need painting.

I got a Mini Cooper done a few years ago for around £250 total cost. Went to a reputable body shop centre who ordered the bumper direct from BMW.

I expect the bumper to be around £200 plus 4-5 hours labour @ £60/hr plus paint and other materials @ £100

DH drives mazdas, I'm with pen. Someone went into the back of his last one and it was almost written off, it didn't look much worse than that photo. There can be quite a bit of unseen/underlying damage and while they are great cars to drive the parts are not cheap. I'd want the repairs carried out by an authorised Mazda place too if it was me,especially on a two year old car. I reckon you're well into four figures.

However, this is why we pay insurance. We all make mistakes and the main thing is no one was hurt from the sound of it. So just take a deep breath, call your insurer and let them deal with the hassle. It sounds as if, if you went into the back of them, the liability is with you. But worse things happen at sea - DH has also reversed into someone's weeks old merc, requiring a new door, but again that is what the insurers get paid to deal ?ith.

Btw, just so you know, that's not a scratch it's a crack in the bumper I think.

penisland · 20/05/2015 12:29

Just get your insurer involved, you made a mistake but these things happen. Learn from it and move on.

Thanks everyone. When I send the pic to my husband he said it was a crack. Looks like it will most likely go through insurance thankfully I paid a small premium this year to protect no claims!
