I have ordered a car over the internet...too good a price to miss. Has anyone else done it and did it go ok?

Yes I bought my car through the internet, will have to check who cant remember. They were fab phoned all the time to update us on were it was as it was beig made and sent from holland. Saved 2.5 k doing it that way. They also phoned after it was delivered to make sure it was ok and we were happy. Very good .

We have saved £4768 off the dealers 'very special price' but now I'm having a minor panic in case it goes pear shaped.

melsey - glad yours went well

We've looked into it, the only difference is the warranty period, normally in the UK you get 3 years made up of 1/2 manufacturer warranty and the rest dealer warranty. An internet car normally doesn't have the dealer warranty. So if you plan to sell it in the next 3 years you may get a lower price for it than if bought in the UK.

What we did is go back to the dealer with the internet price and he matched it.

Hope it goes well, I know others who have done this and have been very happy

We bought a new Laguna from the internet for around £5k less than the usual price. It did take a long time to actually appear though but this wasn't a problem because we didn't pay for it until it was ready for delivery.

Can anyone recommend some internet dealers then? Currently looking at getting a Nissan Almera SE Extras....

I have! DId it just before christmas. I went through drivethedeal.com, saved £4000. Car was a UK car from a UK main dealer. This is different from buying a European import. It was pretty painless and I liked the fact that all my dealings, apart from the initial order and getting the price, were with a known, named main dealer and not a faceless internet company. They really just broked the deal.

I also bought a Uk spec car direct from a dealer in germany and saved over £10,000 (partially helped by the euro/£ exchange rate). That was 4 years ago though.

We bought our Vauxhall Zafira through Jamjar.com for about £2000 less than at the dealers. It all worked really well, though until we received the car, I worried about whether it would turn up.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
Re warranty - the car we have ordered is coming from a UK dealer so shouldn't be any issues there. God to hear so many positive comments, reassures me somewhat.

GeorginaA - try www.drivethedeal.com & broadspeed.com. Also www.jasondawe.com (The Times - very useful articles and internet dealer lists)
