Your digital camera recommendations please - what do you have and is it good?

I'd like to get dh a new one for Christmas and I don't know anything about cameras or what to look for. He's quite an experienced photographer so I wouldn't want to get the most basic one but equally I don't want to spend a silly amount. Thanks for any advice anyone can give.

I've got one of these and its great. It takes video clips too. You can use it in full auto mode or in manual
