Safest family car?

We were hit by a lorry on the motorway last week, with the result that our car is likely to be written off. My toddlers were unhurt and I had only minor injuries.

As you can imagine a safe vehicle is one of our main priorities for the new car. We had a Vauxhall insignia that we were v happy with, and we are now looking at a 7 seated (not 5+2). We were thinking Volvo xc90, but when I look up the ecap safety website - they all seem to score highly - other considerations are the c4 Picasso type vehicles.

Is that really true or is there another source of information I could be looking at?

Thanks

I think most new cars these days are pretty safe aren't they? I wouldn't know where else to look at apart from the euro Ncap ratings.

Our car (Peugeot 5008) has a 5 star rating, but I'd class it as a 5+2 car - if we needed 7 seats on a permanent basis I'd have a Galaxy/Alhambra/Sharan or Renault Espace (do they still make those?!).

The Citroen C4 Grand Picasso is virtually the same car as our Peugeot 'underneath'.

The other trouble with most of these types of cars is the underfloor storage boxes, which of course might interfere with the support legs on your ERF seats. This photo shows how the leg on my Multi Tech II just misses the lid though.

Thanks - I think we are now stepping into the bigger car territory...

They do all seem equallysafe - which is a good thing I guess.
