Small kids with wide feet and high insteps

Anyone recommend a good shoe please? I will be hunting around the sales for future sizes. My DS is currently in Doodles half a size too long just so the straps do up over the instep. Also, does anyone make extra wide wellies?Tempted to put him in socks and sandals for the winter

dd has feet like this and can't wear those doodles (or any shoes with a strap across the instep!)

weirdly, we found Clarks were ok. They have quite a few sort of chunky style shoes that are 'closed' and seem to fit the wide, high instep ok (should mention that it took trying on 5 or 6 pairs in different sizes before we settled on the 'right' shoe ggggggrrrrrr)

Dd is just like this. It is a bit of a nightmare tbh. I'll see if I can find some links to shoes we've used, although obviously pink probably won't be great for your ds!

Lady Penelope from Clarks is one (can't do link) - it's in the girls 2-4 shoe section,

We have the same problem for DD, have tried clarks and startrite not overly impressed by either, now have hush puppies and they are great, DD has different width feet too and they have insert liners in different widths for each shoe. You can get hush puppies at Brantanos too.

Have you tried this season's Startrite wellies? - blue with dinosaur. They fit my wide-footed little boy - may be worth a try for yours.
Good luck.

ds3 is the same - Startrite work best for him. Clarks no good as strap won't go over his foot. Had that problem with doodles too.

Startrite for DD too she has wide feet with high instep and it's a proper bugger finding boots for her ...

Although I found some lovely pink flowery "Timberland-esque" boots in M and S for her - plenty wide enough and the straps are on velcro - they had some nice boy's ones too

Clarks are the only ones that fit our two, with their wide feet, high insteps and narrow heels. They can't wear buckled shoes, have to be laces, though often we find velcro shoes that are OK. Buckled shoes just come straight off at the heel. Buckled sandals are ok, as long as they're the sort that have a strap at the heel, not a completely closed heel.

With wellies we tend to take a large size and put an insole in them. Wellies don't seem to be a problem if they're a bit big, as long as they aren't too big at the ankle (in which case they fall off too easily).

But do't buy larger sizes for him to grow into. You can't predict what the growth pattern will be for his feet, and what width will fit in a few months time.

My DD (3) is the same. She is currently in Clarkes, took her for a fitting about 3 months ago and out of 3 shoeshops there were 2 styles which fitted. One was a pair of black school shoes - Startrite. The other was pink T-Bars clarkes. We bought the pink ones because at 3 years old why should she have to wear broing school shoes which will be her footwear priority anyway in two years time and will go on for over a decade.

Always had a problem with ds having wide feet and a high instep. I found it was not a particular make that suited him, but the individual styles seemed to vary between the different manufacturers.

It was always a case of 'this is the one pair of shoes that fit' though, which he used to get pretty hacked off about, not a choice of several which dd had!

Geox and Ecco have been good for DS.

My feet have always been very wide and high, but got worse when pregnant with DS and have never quite gone back to normal. Which is why I am sitting here in early November wearing sandals because they are the only thing that will fit...
