Can I use itunes when I don't have an ipod (different brand mp3 player)

I broke my ipod just after my dsis brought me an itunes gift voucher. I have birthday money to buy new mp3 player but don't want to buy ipod.

DP is sure that if I get new mp3 player (I want a creative zen thingy) that I can still buy tunes off itunes and use them on it. However been to site and it doesn't give that impression (though dp says 'well it won't will it').

DOn't want to spend extra on mp3 player to get ipod so can use this card, but equally don't want to waste it.

Any ideas?

it wont work, i have it on good authority...intrigued as to why you dont buy new ipod?

I don't think you can use itunes on other types of MP3 - you could listen to them on your puter but not transfer them - might be wrong but it would be a shame to waste the voucher.

Give me a yell if you decide to sell it on if you decide not to risk it!

quite right.
my ds now had an iriver (one dp had before I bought his ipod nano for xmas last yr, ds had an ipod shuffle but it died) and is GUTTED that he cannot convert any of our itunes stash
I am not sure about the legality but as it is for own home play, we intend to burn itunes to cd, then reimport them into mp3 files if poss. and insert onto iriver
Or this might be female fantasy... Do would go missus wtf are you on girl

No you won't be able to do it - it's all encrypted. DH who has a Creative Zen player has been very frustrated by this!

thanks - I didn't think you could.

Don't want new ipod as they are overpriced and unreliable. Can get much better one for half the price.

I would do a search on google to see if you can find any free translation software for itunes -> mp3, though. Or to any format that you can get a translator to mp3.

have had an ipod for nearly three years now and still going strong...though video camera recently died a death fortnight ago

lodger thinks he might want to buy gift card - hopefully he will and that should solve problems. I can use money to buy music from another site.
