Touran or similar?

We are looking for a used (up to 5yrs old) 7 seater. I love the look of the touran but have heard it's not that reliable? It sounds silly but I love the idea of the drop down trays on the back of the seats so dcs can rest books, toys, snacks etc when travelling. Would you recommend a touran?

We have a touran, for several years, no problems at all. It's a great car.

I would have thought a Volkswagen would be reliable? Our next-door-but-one neighbours have an 06 plate Touran that they got secind hand and they are quite happy with it.

We used to have a Renault Scenic with trays on the back of the front seats and I'm sure the manual said they had to be upright when driving (like your aeroplane tray has to be upright for takeoff and landing!). Something to do with the risk of the backseat passengers hitting them in the event of a crash. Our current Peugeot 5008 has them too, I think they are more for picnics on rainy days than meant to be used whilst driving.

Our 5008 is the Peugeot version of the Touran. It's an 11 plate and we got it when it was 8 months old. It's a 1.6l diesel engine, is lovely to drive and has been very reliable so far.

My peugeot 5008 has drop down trays and 7 seats.

Has it 2 1/2 years with no problems (touch wood!)

We have an 8 year old Touran. It's great - very reliable and lots of room. You shouldn't use the trays when travelling though - not very safe in an accident.

Thanks everyone. Good news on the reliability front. Didn't know about the trays tho Blush makes sense.

They score well below average in the reliability index. VW reliability is a myth IMHO.

I don't think our touran is amazingly reliable. The bloody ABS system has cost us an arm and several legs.

we had a Touran from new to 9 years old and aside from a coolant hazard light problem(that was fixed by us topping it up with water) had no issues.
Would recommend.
