We have a Nextbase one that can be plugged into the tv.

I'll try and find you a link...hang on!

here you are!

you can get them in the UK- ours came from a place in Chelmsford, I think.

They are not particularly cheap, but, very good quality, solid feel and good picture and sound reproduction.

Apparently the tablet style ones are less likely to fall apart than the "clamshell" style

Our DVD player wa sworth every penny to us over the summer; we had a VERY long journey to America- transatlantic flight with Thomas Cook airlines (never again!), followed by a very long car journey. We hardly had a peep out of dd the whole way!

thanks. Does anyone know if most portable DVD's can be used with tv?

We have a venturer one and it can be used with a tv.
I think you can usually use them with a tv but you may not get the leads with it when you buy it IYSWIM.

We too are after one of these for Xmas but mainly to use in the car for DD on long journeys. Any ideas - do the 2 you've just mentioned work in the car (sorry not sure about all this new fangled technology!!!).

TIA

Just bought this one Seems great so far ad you get leads to attach to tv, play in car and remote control - and it has a big screen

Twohootsandapumpkin · 30/10/2006 16:17

thx mummycan. Being thick here but how do you attach it to the headrest of a car - does it come with a belt thing? Seems a good price but rather a large screen - does it not go 'over' the sides of the headrest? Sorry if I'm being thick - really know nothing about them.

mummycan · 30/10/2006 16:23

We didn't actually attach it to the headrest but it comes with extra straps and full instructions. The larger screen is a bonus for us. DH was adamant he didn't want DD peering at a six or seven inch screen. Argos do the 8 inch screen one for £120 here
Also - compared to lots of others it is relatively cheap and as it is usually used in the vicinity of children his was a definite plus for us.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

drosophila · 30/10/2006 18:05

Well the big plus for me is that Argos is the nearest shop to me. Thanks....
