My Steam generator iron cable - the material had come away from the top of the tube that goes in the iron bit and not the steamer

This happened to my neighbour and she just wrapped rag round it...not sure I would though, have you tried a repair shop?? Does the lead get hot (suppose it must) sorry thats not much help is it !!!
