If you go for the Leapster, it's in the 3 for 2 promo at Boots so you would get the machine + 2 Games for just short of £70.

thanks

the L-max seems to teach writing as well, according to the woolworths bluff but does it take the games too? or is it completley different?

The Leapster Platform was the original Leapster, the L-Max was the newer version.

The main difference is that the L-Max can connect to a TV as well as being a stand alone console.

The games are compatible with either unit, but only the L-Max version of games will show on TV (there are sometimes 2 versions of the same game but in slighly different shaped boxes).

We got our DS an original Leapster a few years ago and he loves it. You can get a semi-rigid case for the original Leapster here which is great, but this is not available for the L-Max. They offer a backpack style bag like this . DD has the L-Max (for Xmas this year) and a pink backpack.

Here's a link to a previous mumsnet discussion I remembered.

HTH.
