AOL Broadband- help please

I've just manged to get AOL Broadband up and running after many calls to their help desk. I have been told to do so many things to my computer by the helpdesk and now I have no Microsoft Word! The icon is still there, I can see the file names, but it won't let me open them. It comes up as 'the application must be installed to run. Please run setup from the location where you originally installed the application'

I need help as my REPORT CARDS are in there, and they have to be in this week!!!Of course I didn't back them to disc or anything sensible like that as I've never had a problem before.

eeek, AOL! They are buggers for this kind of thing.

But your files should be OK - to open them quickly can you email them to someone else and get them to print them out?

To sort your machine out, you'll probably need to reinstall Word. First go to the Control Panel and click on add/remove programmes: if Word is in there then click on it to uninstall it properly. Then get the Office CD and follow the instructions.

PS it's probably just removed Word from the registry, but it's not a good idea to try to fix that unless you really know what you're doing. Reinstalling is the best option.

Have a look in your trash bin also to see if you have deleted it by accident, if so you should be able to do a restore. Otherwise like has been said you will have to reinstall word!

Thanks Sp. I've emailed them to my pal and she's just checking now- never thought of that. If that works she can send it back- but I don't know if I will be able to work on them if word isn't responding

There's nothing in add/remove apart from my modem file, updated msn file and adaware. No word at all. computers

If I reinstall, will I still be able to open my old files or will it delete them. Sorry for being such a dunce

And to reinstall- I have 8 discs with microsoft works suite which I originally got with the pc- is that the ones to do it with?

yes, the files should still be there. You may lose any quick links to them though.

SenoraPostrophe · 25/04/2004 20:56

and yes, those discs should do it.

Its not in the bin 3GM. That would have been nice if it was.

Not what you want to hear, but my husband is in the computer business and he hates AOL! He always tells people not to use it.....
