I was going to bid on a 16" bike on E Bay for my DD

16" seems to be for 5-8 years, but on the add it says aged 7-9 years

I e mailed and asked for more info and she replied...

Hi, Thank you for your question. The bike is adjustable from the seat to the floor between 23 -29 inch. Depending on the size of the child to suit.

I am still none the wiser

can anyone advise???

Thanks

We tried a 16" for my ds (4.6) in toys r us and it was just about ok. He's quite tall for his age - probably about an average 5.6. The chap in the shop did say though that the frame sizes can be quite different even if the wheel size is 16". The one you saw might be one of the larger frames.

The frame sizes do vary - ds had a 20" wheel bike for his 5th birthday (he's a little above avarage height, but not dramatically so) and it's fine for him. I'd say most of the others his age are on 16" whel bikes.

Go to your local Halfords/bike shop/Toys'r'Us/whatever and get her to sit on one which is that size and you'll get an idea of whether it's likley to be right.

Thanks

I suppose that it will be too big

Thats a shame, I actually found something on EBay that I could go and collect!!!

I don't want to pay for a new bike as she won't use it that much

I would think 16" would be right for an averge size 5 yr old. Ask about the height of the crossbar (the bar from handlebars to seat). That shouldn't be more than inch or so higher than your child's inside floor to bottom length, ideally about 1" less, but 1" or so taller ok if child is good at riding.

anniebear · 24/10/2006 13:27

16" is the right size for a 5 year old but she advertised it as 7-9 years

and said the bike is adjustable from the seat to the floor between 23 -29 inch.

which has confused me (doesnt take much lol)

annie - you need to measure your child's inside leg

NastyNemo666 · 24/10/2006 13:28

completely depends on the height of your child. Ds just turned 3 and for his bday we got him a bike. Was advised to get him a 10 or 12" but he is tall and strong for his age so got him a 14" as didnt want to have to replace in another 6mths. It is fine for him so it does depend on the child.
